Spam Sushi

Yep, you read that correctly. Spam sushi. The Spam, was, in fact, cooked. But it was dressed up like sushi and sitting on rice.
I went to a Hawaiian restaurant this weekend (Did you know that Hawaiians eat more Spam than anyone else in the world? Yeah, me neither.) and this was on the menu as Spam musubi. Have to confess - I actually like Spam and the musubi was yummy.

Treasures In The Attic

This crazy rental house has an attic, but I've only been in it once, when the agent and I did the final walk through and I barely stuck my head up there. It was CRAZY hot that week and the brilliant agent who showed the house last turned on the heat rather than the air making it over 90 degrees in the house. The attic was really miserable.

But, being heartily sick and tired of crap everywhere I decided to start using the space up there to get some of the crap out of the way. The attic isn't completely floored and the landlord added HVAC (thank goodness) reducing the usable storage pace. So, I went up to see exactly what I had to work with up there. Imagine my surprise when I flipped on the light and saw this:

Yes, those are legs. More specifically, the bottom half of a mannequin. I think the real miracle here is that I didn't fall off the ladder.

I am creeped out that these legs have been hanging out above my bedroom and really baffled as to what on earth they are doing there.

Why exactly would someone have mannequin legs in their attic, or do we really want to know?

Petey's New Friend

We have a new resident in the backyard, a black squirrel. I've never seen a black squirrel and the first time Petey treed him, I thought it was a cat. I was relieved when I realized it was a squirrel, poor little guy was pretty high.

Serendipity

"the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for" (Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary)

I benefited from serendipity in a big way recently. It all started with an email about free puppy food that needed to be picked up. Fast forward to the warehouse parking lot, where I was standing at the back of my car discussing various puppy issues with another volunteer when I noticed a HUGE hole in the tread on my tire.

SCARY! I don't understand how I hadn't already had a blow out especially considering the way I drive .

Obviously, I have to get that tire replaced before I go home. But, I'm 23 freeway miles from my neighborhood in an area of town I know NOTHING about. Hmmm, well, I guess I'll head to the car dealership on the access road and ask them where the nearest tire place is. If it's too far maybe they will put my spare on for me. However, as I slowly turn on the access road what do I see?

And, yes, I did hear Handel's Hallelujah chorus in my head at that moment. I have NEVER been so happy to see NTB. Not only had I found a tire place, but I found my favorite tire place.

So, to recap, not only am I in a situation where I actually notice a hole in right rear tire BEFORE the tire goes out, but it happens less than 1/8 of a mile from a tire place. The very nice gentlemen at NTB at I-10 and Wilcrest got me fixed up quickly. So, thank you to all involved in the discovery and resolution of my faulty tire. Oh, and did I mentioned my tires were on sale???? Life is good!

Red Lights

Have you ever noticed that when you're in a hurry, you hit a red light at every intersection; but when you actually need a red light, say to take a picture of the plastic horse holding up a "whoa" sign shaped like a stop sign sitting on the trailer hitch of the pickup truck in front of you, the lights are all green...forever?

Car Shopping Confusion

Car shopping can be overwhelming, I know....so many decisions to make. Never fear, Nissan has a solution if you can't pick a color for your new Z.

No, you're not seeing things. The car is three (3!) different colors. Most of the body is grayish silver, the front is dark blue and the black (and gas cap) are black. On purpose.

I Loved My Dog, But....

I found this little gem (pardon the pun) on AOL's home page.

LIFE GEM, $2,699-$24,999.You can't go wrong with diamonds--unless those diamonds are a byproduct of recently deceased Fluffy's remains. Life Gem cremates departed pets, using the carbon to create a unique gem with a creepy back story.

Now, I loved my dog (a lot) and I will admit to having him cremated, but this??? Words fail me. Ewww! I have enough trouble with the pretty black urn I have on my dresser. (which is why it's partially hidden by the Peace Lily Trix brought me when I lost him. ) I simply can't fathom walking around with a gem on my hand made from dead dog, let alone paying $25,000 for it.
To each his own, I suppose.
