Canine Good Citizen

Yep. Petey earned his Canine Good Citizen certificate. Thanks to Courtney and Holly from Pup Scouts and the good people at Treat 'Em Right Rescue, after two rounds of basic obedience (Behave-A-Bulls), he passed the test. No one was more surprised that I was and we never could have done it without all of Courtney's help and patience. (And the patience of all of our classmates.) We still have a lot of work to do, but a year ago it took two hands, a prong collar and all my strength to walk Petey down the street when another dog was around, now, we've ditched the prong collar and can even walk a few feet at a time on a loose leash in a heel.

I just need to mail in his paperwork to the American Kennel Club and he'll be official

Incongruent

This is my dog, Petey.

(Thanks to Courtney from Pup Scouts and the good people at Treat 'Em Right Rescue, we don't need to use the scary prong collar anymore.)

This is my favorite house from Barkitecture Houston:

Beautiful isn't it? But, I did not think my big, black, MALE Pit mix would really look at home in this pretty pink confection. Although, he sure would have enjoyed redecorating the yard with all the flowers.

Petey is a Pup Squad pup and we would both like to thank the Houston Pavilions, the teams who worked so hard to build the amazing houses, all the volunteers and everyone who came out to Barkitecture and supported Pup Squad.

Bring In A Stray

A guest post by Pup Squad

While all Houstonians are bundling up their kids, plants and animals local rescue groups are asking Houstonians to consider the stray dogs and cats of Houston. They cannot survive in the temperatures we are going to experience in the next 48 hours. Many of Houston’s homeless animals are going to freeze to death without a warm place to escape this weather. If you see a stray, please consider opening your heart and home to them. This will save the animals life and there are many rescue groups and shelters in Houston that can help find the animals permanent homes so they are not in this position again…thanks! Pup Squad
