He's Baaaack.....

Petey, one of my very first foster puppies is back. The girl who adopted him is returning to school and is no longer able to care for him. (She renamed him, but he's always been Petey to me and he still answers to it, so Petey, he is, once again.)

{It is
Pup Squad's policy that we will take any of our dogs back. We'd much rather have them returned than surrendered to shelters. Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often.}

We're having lots of fun taking long walks (okay, maybe not lots, it's so HOT!) and destroying all the stuffed dog toys in the house. He is still the same super-sweet little guy who loves people and really wants to please. Well, maybe he's not all that little anymore....

P.S. Regarding the little guys - they have been reunited with the rest of their litter and are happily enjoying life with another foster (who actually knows what she's doing). They remain nameless, but I'll post updates on their progress.

If Only Someone Had a Video Camera Handy....

There I am, minding my own business, trying to give Lu directions to Anvil (a great bar in Montrose, innovative cocktails, cool vibe, eclectic crowd) when suddenly with NO warning I am drenched in icky Houston pothole water. Completely soaked. Seriously, dripping wet. I was standing near the street, so I could relay some landmarks, but cars were whizzing by without incident, until a silver Jeep Cherokee comes barreling down the street hugging the curb. (Thanks Dude!) Apparently, from inside the bar, it was quite entertaining.

A big thank you to the very nice bartender who brought me a towel.

Julie & Julia

Delightful, delicious....

I read the book (and loved it) so it's no big shock that I enjoyed the movie. Amy Adams is great as Julie Powell and Meryl Streep is amazing as Julia Child (big shock, non?!?). She is incredible, but her ability to disappear in to a role so completely still takes me by surprise. Nora Ephron did a fantastic job of traveling between Julie and Julia making it impossible not to fall in love with both. I read recently that Ephon's goal was to make you leave the theater ravenous; in that regard she failed. I walked in stuffed after a fantastic lunch at Ruggles Green and continued to eat throughout the movie. In all fairness, I guess that wasn't really Nora's fault. It did renew my desire to buy "The Mastering Art of French Cooking" and attempt at least some of the recipes, like boeuf bourguignon and the lucious looking chocolate almond cake, but there is no way I'm touching any of the aspics....ewwww.

So, celebrate Julia Child's upcoming birthday and go see the movie.

Name Those Puppies

After a week, I think it's time to name my puppies. However, that's not as easy as it sounds. First, I need an original theme and since Pup Squad is on puppy, I don't know...200, it is challenging to find names that are original. We've had some great theme litters (and I can take NO credit for any of them) a Harry Potter litter, Dukes of Hazard, Greek Gods, Norse Gods, Mice (as in Minnie, Mickey, Mighty), poets, spices, musical symbols..the list goes on. So, where to start? Well, that's where you come in.... HELP! I either need a theme for all eight (three boys and five girls) or just for the four I kept (three girls and one boy).

What I've Been Up To.....

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, just in case anyone missed me... ;) Last Thursday afternoon I got a call about 8 baby puppies that had been dumped at BARC (the local city shelter). {Why, you ask, would someone turn babies in to a shelter? Because they didn't look like their dog. ??!!} They were less than three weeks old and needed to be bottle fed, could I take them until Saturday?

I've never had puppies this young and had no idea how to handle them, but after hemming and hawing and having every excuse shot down, I agreed to take them. It was just until Saturday, right....Well, that was the theory, but by Sunday morning, I missed the babies and eight is a lot for one person to handle, so I split the litter with another foster. (Wow, after eight, four is a breeze!). So, I'm stumbling around (just like the babies) figuring out how to take care of babies this little.

It's a bit of a challenge to get halfway decent pictures of the little buggers. The only time they're still is when they're asleep!.

P.S.

I wouldn't take any action on me actually giving up all of these puppies. The odds of me not keeping one of them are VERY slim!
